Park Centre Shopping Centre Signs Up To Anti Racism Charter

This week the Park Centre became the first major shopping complex in West Belfast to endorse the Anti Racism Charter issued by West Against Racism Network (WARN)

Sara Boyce of WARN said that;

“This unique initiative has been developed by the WARN in an effort to actively promote an anti racism culture across West Belfast. Many Community Groups Businesses and local organisations have signed up and are supporting the effort.  The Park Centre’s support should help create that ethos and add an extra welcome to those who are marginialised in our society.”

The Anti Racism Charter consists of a single page document which includes an explanation of what racism is, adapted from the UN Declaration on Race and Racial Prejudice, along with some examples blaming migrants for job losses due to the ‘credit crunch’ or shouting sectarian or other racist abuse during a Celtic-Rangers match that its not going your way.  The Charter pledges the signatory not to engage in racist words or actions and to challenge it wherever and whenever it occurs.
